Hamlet is a tragedy depicting a truly dysfunctional family. This story is full of anger, sorrow, guilt, fear, and incest. The tragic hero is Hamlet, son of the recently deceased King Hamlet. Soon after the king’s death, the widower marries her brother-in-law. Hamlet is completely angered with his mother and is disgusted by her sharing a bed with Claudius so quickly after his father’s death.
When the ghost appears and tells Hamlet of the circumstances of the king’s death, it fuels his anger and he must seek revenge.

Hamlet is mourning his father, but also he has emotionally lost his mother.
It seems to me, Hamlet is a bit cowardice as he prolongs the revenge, using the actors to set Claudius up to show his guilt. He also tries to kill Claudius behind the curtain, instead of battling with him face-to-face. When Hamlet’s mother is clueless as to his anger toward him, he spouts off at her in retaliation when she remarks about his killing Polonius, saying “almost as bad, good mother, ask kill a king, and marry with his brother”. His sarcasm is noted here when he addresses her as ‘good mother’. He appears to be like a lost little boy, that only wants his family intact again. But he has lost faith in love and the happy ever after.
